Athletics Update 10/4-10/16

Big news coming from the equestrian program: Ella Rosloniec took 3rd at the High School Equestrian Team State Championships this past weekend! With placing 3rd, Ella is the highest placing cougar at state in Catholic Central history! Ella earned the most points for any single rider at the state. Congratulations Ella!

Ella accomplished all of this while simultaneously playing a second varsity sport at Catholic Central, Girl’s golf, that also qualified for state this season.

The 2021 girls golf season for the Varsity Girls Golf Team, led by Head Coach Kim Napieralski, concluded this weekend with the Lady Cougars coming home in a tie for 5th place out of 18 MHSAA Division 3 teams.

Freshman Ava Wisinski finished the two 18 hole rounds in a tie for 7th place out of 111 golfers competing on the West Akers Golf Course in East Lansing.  Five golfers compete each day with the top 4 scores counting toward the final standings.  Senior Mia Clarke, Sophomore Katie Cook, and Junior Morgan Armock all played Friday and Saturday with Juniors Kayla Pleiness and Ava Soltysiak playing one day each.

Congratulations to the entire Varsity Girls Golf Team on a great season!

On 10/5, boys varsity soccer defeated Cedar Springs 5-0 in the OK Gold Conference Tournament.. Two days later on 10/7, boys varsity soccer was defeated by South Christian 0-2 in the OK Gold Conference Tournament. In MHSAA District action on 10/14, the boys defeat West Michigan Aviation Academy to advance to the MHSAA District finals against Lakewood on 10/19 at South Christian Sports Park.

Girls varsity volleyball is staying hot rolling into the post season. On 10/5 the girls sweep Kenowa Hills at all 3 levels and two days later on 10/7, the varsity volleyball team completes a perfect conference season with a 3-1 victory over Forest Hills Eastern! In OK Gold Conference Tournament action, on 10/12 the girls roll Ottawa Hills 3-0 in the opening round of the tournament and on 10/19 they will compete in the second round of the conference tournament as they take on Forest Hills Eastern.

Boys varsity football throttles Thornapple Kellogg for a 52-0 victory on the road against a conference opponent on 10/8. In a tough battle on the road at Cedar Springs, the cougars pull out a 41-40 victory over the 5th ranked team in division 3! On 10/15, the cougars stopped a 2-point try that would have given the red hawks the lead and quite possibly a victory with 34 seconds remaining in the game. The varisty football team has clinched a share of the OK Gold Conference title, and with a victory over Kenowa Hills at home on 10/22, will claim sole posession of the conference.
