Cougar Athletics Fall Update (9/2 - 9/20)

Catholic Central Cougars athletics are off to a good start as we ascend on the halfway point in the season. Here is how every varsity team's season is going at this point in the season!

Girls Varsity Volleyball:

The Cougars are rolling this season with a 15-6-1 record! They are ranked 16th in Maxpreps 2021 class 2 volleyball state rankings. Some big wins on the season are against conference opponents South Christian and Ottawa hills where they combined to win 6 sets while only losing 1! Some big wins for the cougars this season have been against division 1 schools such as East Kentwood, West Ottawa, Coopersville, Jenison and Okemos to name a few.

This week the volleyball team will be home on Tuesday (9/21) against Wayland, Freshman play at 4, JV plays at 5 and Varsity will hit the court at 6!

Boys Varsity Cross Country

The boys had a fantastic race on September 8th. Everyone that competed either ran a season best time or a personal record. The boys finished in 4th place finish but were just 22 points out of first. That may sound like a lot of points but it really comes down to a few place changes in the race.

The following boys earned all conference points

Erickson Kunzler 21 points

Jeb Hillary 14 points

Brian Langlois 13 points

Ian Richthammer 7 points

Girls Varsity Cross Country

The girls had a great race with every girl running a season best or personal record in their race on September 8th. A crucial part to their success is that they did a much greater job than their opponents of being more aggressive in the first mile of the race. The girls finished 10 points out of 3rd place and 19 points away from second place.

The following girls earned points toward all conference honors:

Emily Tomes 23 points

Emma Barlow 4 points

Claire Bertrand 3 points

Boys Varsity Football

The Cougar Varsity Football team has started off the season with a 4-0 record, with big wins over conference opponents Forest Hills Eastern and South Christian.

On September 4th, the cougars hosted Andrean in their first home game of the season and gained an impressive 34-14 win over the 59ers.

Next, on September 10th, the cougars went into Forest Hills Eastern for their first conference game of the season. The cougars shut out the hawks and en route to a 63-0 victory.

The Homecoming game on September 17th brought out a boatload of cougars fans, and everybody climbed aboard the ship that bolstered the cougars to a 28-6 victory over conference opponent South Christian.

Catholic Central is ranked number 1 in the AP poll for division 5 through 3 weeks and with a statement win last Friday, their ranking should not change.

The Cougars next game will be this Friday, September 24th at Houseman stadium where Catholic Central will be hosted by Ottawa Hills in their third conference game of the year.
