Varsity Boys Golf Win OK Gold Championship and MHSAA Regionals!

In just over a week the Varsity Boys Golf Team secured both the OK Gold Conference Championship and the MHSAA Division 3 / Region 14 Tournament!!!
On May 24th the Cougars outpaced the field to win the OK Gold Championship by 25 strokes over Forest Hills Eastern. CC was led by Freshmen Will Preston and Matthew Sokorai who both shot 2-over par 74's - leading the entire field of 7 teams. Senior Andrew Armock carded a 78, followed by Junior Luke Preston with a 79, Junior Johnny Harmon with an 80, and Senior Thomas Grile with an 84. All 6 Cougar golfers finished in the top 9 for the Conference Finals out of 42 golfers!!!
June 1st brought the Cougars to Egypt Valley Country Club for the Region 14 Finals of Division 3. In a field of 16 teams, CC finished with a low score of 317 beating 2nd place NorthPointe Christian by a convincing 19 strokes. Senior Andrew Armock and Freshman Will Preston, both shooting 4-over par 76's, were the low scores for the day out of all competitors who tackled the Valley Course at Egypt Valley. Juniors Johnny Harmon and Luke Preston finished with 82 and 83, respectively, and Freshman Matthew Sokorai rounded out the team with an 87. Five of the top 12 scores for the day, out of 84 golfers, were from CC. Great job guys!
With the win at Regionals, the Cougars now advance to the Division 3 State Finals on June 11th and 12th. The finals will be held at The Meadows of Grand Valley State University.

CC Boys Golf Team Dominates at T-K Jamboree!

The varsity boys golf team competed in the latest OK Gold conference jamboree on April 29th at Yankee Springs Golf Course in Wayland and came together to score a conference best for the season with a final score of 146. Teams play 6 golfers and the lowest 4 scores count toward the match's team results.
Leading the Cougars was Will Preston (Fr) at 1 under par 35. Close behind were Andrew Armock (Sr) and Luke Preston (Jr) with even par 36's. Scores of 39 were shot by the remaining three CC golfers: Thomas Grile (Sr), Johnny Harmon (Jr) and Matthew Sokorai (Fr). An extremely impressive and dominating performance with all 6 golfers below 40 and with a cumulative score of 146, the Cougars easily outpaced the Hawks from Forest Hills Eastern who came in second at 168. 6 of the 9 lowest scores shot were CC golfers - great job guys!

CC Boys JV Golf takes 5th Place at T-K Invite

Braving cold, rain and wind, the CC Boys JV Golf Team finished a very respectable 5th place at the Thornapple-Kellogg Invitational at Yankee Springs Golf Course in Wayland today. The invitational included 18 different teams from 15 area high schools - with a total of over 100 golfers competing.
John Meyer paced the Cougars with an 89 that gave the Sophomore a 7th Place finish overall. Sophomores Nolan Nemecek (93), Ryan Waite (99) and Ian Schweigert (108) rounded out the top 4 for CC to give the Cougars a 389 total. Also golfing for CC were Freshman Sam Tietema (119) and Sophomore Drew Schweigert (109), both playing in their first ever 18 hole competitive match.
CC Boys Golf Team Wins MHSAA State Championship!

The varsity boys golf team competed on June 11th and 12th at The Meadows Golf Course at Grand Valley State University in the MHSAA Division 3 state championship. 18 teams from around the lower peninsula competed with the Cougars coming out on top with a team score of 623, outpacing the Cardinals of Big Rapids and the Comets of Hanover Horton who both came in at 640. Rounding out the top 5 included Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard (649) and University Liggett (649).
On Friday, the Cougars were led by Freshman Matthew Sokorai who carded an impressive 1 over par 73 which was tied for 4th as the best round of Day 1. Freshman Will Preston followed with a 77 and Senior Andrew Armock and Junior Johnny Harmon both finished with 78's. Luke Preston came in with an 84 during a round that included extremely hot and humid conditions for all 108 competitors. CC's day 1 team total of 306 provided the Cougars with a 14 stroke advantage over Big Rapids at 320.
Saturday's conditions were slightly improved from Friday, but by the end of the day high temperatures and humidity definitely challenged the entire field. The CC golfers again led the field with the lowest team score (317) with Senior Thomas Grile finishing with a 6-over par 78 which was also matched by Freshman Will Preston. Senior Andrew Armock was next with a 79, followed by Junior Johnny Harmon and Freshman Andrew Sokorai both with 82's.
The two day total of 623 was enough to secure the school's first golf championship and head Coach Kim Napieralski and all of the CC golfers should be proud of this amazing accomplishment!

Sports Physicals Required in 2021-2022

The MHSAA Health Questionnaire will not be in use next school year (2021-22).
An MHSAA pre-participation sports physical is again required for all students who participate in sports in 2021-22.
A valid physical examination must be completed on or after April 15, 2021.
The MHSAA two-page physical form has not changed and is available on MHSAA.com, at www.CatholicCentralSports.com under the "FORMS" tab or at the link following link: MHSAA Sports Physical Form

Varsity Boys Golf Finishes in 2nd Place by a Stroke at GR Christian Invite

A very close 18 hole match found the CC golfers finishing just a single stroke out of first place and a stroke ahead of third place Saturday afternoon at Quail Ridge Golf Course at the Grand Rapids Christian Invitational.
The Cougars were led by senior Andrew Armock who carded a 5 over par 77. Close behind Armock was senior Thomas Grile with a 78 and freshman Will Preston, also with a 78. Juniors Johnny Harmon and Carl Shadowens finished with 84's and freshman Matthew Sokorai rounded out the team with a very respectable 90.
Armock (4th), Grile (5th) and Preston (5th) were top 10 medalists for their efforts.
Varsity Boys Golf Wins Season Opening OK Gold Jamboree @ Quail Ridge

The CC boys varsity golf team won the season opening OK Gold jamboree at their home course, Quail Ridge, by a convincing 16 strokes over Kenowa Hills High School with a team score of 157.
The Cougars were led by freshman Will Preston who carded a 2 over par 38, followed by junior Johnny Harmon with a 39. Senior Thomas Grile and freshman Matthew Sokorai finished with 4 over par 40, and close behind was senior Andrew Armock and junior Luke Preston both with scores of 42. The top 4 scores yielded the final 157 tally. All 6 Cougar golfers finished in the top 10 out of 43 golfers that braved the challenging conditions at Quail Ridge in Ada.
The team heads back to Quail Ridge on Saturday, April 17th, for the Grand Rapids Christian Invite. Conference play continues on Wednesday, April 21st, when Forest Hills Eastern hosts the OK Gold schools at Egypt Valley Country Club.
