CC Varsity Girls Golf @ MHSAA State Finals (10/14-10/15)

Updated on 08/02/2023

This past weekend the Catholic Central Varsity Girls Golf Team competed in the MHSAA Golf Finals at Forest Akers East Golf Course on the campus of Michigan State University.  The team battled some very difficult conditions on a challenging golf course, especially day 2 where temps started off in the upper 30's with strong winds throughout the day.

Morgan Armock (Sr), Katie Cook (Jr), Ava Wisinski (So), and Kelsey Preston (Fr) competed both Friday and Saturday, while Audrey Sokorai (Fr) participated on Friday and Margaret Deimel (Fr) played on Saturday for the Cougar golfers.

While the team came up just short in bringing home a State Championship, finishing the 2-day event in 5th place out of 18 teams, the Lady Cougars fought until the end with Ava Wisinski and Kelsey Preston finishing in the top 6 out of 115 golfers competing.  After day 1 Preston was sitting in 4th place while Wisinski was tied for 11th.  During Preston's opening round she carded an impressive 5 birdies enroute to finishing with a 76.  Wisinski's 73 on Saturday was the second-best score of the day out of all the golfers, just 1 shot behind the low score on day 2.  Wisinski would end up in a tie for 4th place, improving on her 7th place finish in 2021.  Preston's solid round on Saturday provided her with a tie for 6th place.

Head Coach Kim Napieralski and Assistant Coach Andy Grile wish our senior captains, Ava Soltysiak and Morgan Armock, all the very best after 4 years with us.  We will miss you both!  Thank you to all the parents who helped make this year a great success - your support has been outstanding, and we can't thank you enough for all you do for the CC golf program.  Thank you also to JV Head Coach Chad Bocian and Coach Tony Zoellner for your outstanding work with our Junior Varsity team who had an exceptional season, too.  The future looks bright and we can't wait until next year!!!
